(Day of Service)

University of Minnesota Morris students in the Gateway and Stellar programs will participate in their annual Day of Service Friday throughout Morris. Students will design a concept for a community mural that celebrates Morris and is scheduled to be painted on an exterior wall of Common Cup this coming spring. The community may give feedback on the concept at the Stevens County Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the UMM booth in the Lee Center. Students will also do a seed harvest with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to learn how to preserve the prairie habitat.

Additionally, students are collecting new school supplies for area K-12 students, which are being collected at Shopko, Willie’s Supervalu, Meadowland Market, Salvation Army Thrift Store and the UMM booth at the County Fair.

UMM Community Engagement Coordinator Argie Manolis explained why the U engages in these activities on the KMRS Community Connection program. Donors may choose to write checks to the Salvation Army with “school supply drive” in the subject line, or to donate cash, which will be used to purchase additional supplies.
