At this week’s meeting of the Morris City Council, an ordinance was passed increasing the salary of the mayor and city council members by $500, the first such increase since 2014. The mayor’s salary will now by $7,000 per year, and city council members will earn $6,000. By statute, the salary increase will not go in effect until January 2019.

In addition, council members unanimously passed a motion to authorize applying for a grant to get a machine to quickly dry gear of the Fire Department. Currently, after fire fighters wash their gear, it gets hung to dry and can take up to 2 days for the drying process.

…City Manager Blaine Hill. The city match for the grant would be 10% of the total cost of $10,000, or roughly $1,000, if the department is successful in their efforts.

Also at the meeting, the council passed a resolution that authorized the execution of a MNDOT grant agreement for improvements to the Morris Municipal Airport. While the price tag is $73,000 to do the design work on the reconstruction project that would improve the apron, taxilane and runway areas of the airport, the city’s share is $8,800. Construction is scheduled for 2019.
