This past weekend saw the dedication of the Edward J. and Helen Jane Morrison Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota Morris. The $1.6 million project features upgrades to Edson Auditorium and the development of a Grand Foyer in the lobby area of Edson.

Jenna Ray is with the Communications and Marketing department of UM Morris and told KMRS that plans for an Edson upgrade have been discussed since 1992. The gift from the Morrison family allowed the project to go forward at this time.

The first major public performance in the revamped Edson Auditorium will be Saturday, October 6 with the African vocal ensemble Nobuntu. The dedication also launched the U’s $21 million capital campaign, which has already met half its goal, and seeks to provide funding for scholarships, endowed professorships, campus improvements and an EcoStation with outreach efforts.
