ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris defenders and two Cougar runners were selected as Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Players of the Week in their respective sports.Cougar defensive lineman Carter Wattenhofer was a terror in the Iowa Wesleyan backfield Saturday. In the 13-7 homecoming win, the UMAC Football Defensive Player of the Week recorded three quarterback sacks, tied for most by a Cougar in a game since 2001. He accounted for six tackles, five of them solo.
Also lauded for work on the defensive end was Morgan Miller who earned UMAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors. Miller, who leads the conference in total blocks (54) and blocks/set (1.23), tallied 16 blocks in four matches last week to help the Cougars to three wins in four matches.
Having a good performance on the course was junior Ryan Anderson who received UMAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. He was the top UMAC finisher at Saturday’s St. Olaf Invite. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 27:34.7, good for 17th place out of 118 runners.
Also representing Cougar cross country well was Katherine Novak who earned UMAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades. At the St. Olaf Invite Saturday, the senior from Champlin ran a time of 24:21.5 over the six-kilometer course, good for 24th place out of 157 runners; that time bested all UMAC runners in the field.
