The Courthouse was to be the scene of the planned demonstration.

On the afternoon of September 24, Sheriff Jason Dingman, Chief Deputy Tom Loew, and Deputy Jason Reed from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a possible domestic incident and that one individual may have been in possession of a gun. The deputies arrived in Alberta, near the intersection of Highway 28 and Neuman Street. A male individual later identified as Donald George Scott, age 26, of Alabama, began physically resisting the deputies. He was able to break free and was caught. Scott physically resisted the deputies again, was able to break free, and then ran. Scott was tazed on Highway 28. Scott had injuries and was then transported by ambulance for medical treatment. Charges are expected against Scott for fleeing on foot and obstructing legal process, but have not been filed as of today.

Erika Lee Lopez, age 18, of St. Martin, Minnesota, had been with Scott and was arrested at the scene for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Lopez had a bail hearing on September 25, at the Stevens County Courthouse. Bail was set at $10,000 unconditional or release without bail with conditions. The Morris Police Department and University of Minnesota Morris Campus Police also responded to the scene.
