U.S. Representative Collin Peterson of Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District told KMRS that he was thankful the trade agreement recently reached between Mexico and Canada wasn’t worse, and that after months of wrangling the agreement is not that much different than the North American Free Trade Agreement it will be replacing.

Coming to an agreement with the Chinese, however, will be a much lengthier and difficult task, said Peterson, who didn’t see much positive coming out of the trade wars with China.

On another matter, Peterson, the ranking member of the House Committee on Agriculture, said he was confident the Farm Bill will be completed by the end of the year, despite difficult negotiations.

Peterson’s Republican opponent in the November election, Dave Hughes, told KMRS that he was all for the new trade agreement, and called it a “big win for America.”
