UNDERWOOD – Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley possibly wrapped up the top-seed in the 6A-South playoffs with a first place finish at the Underwood Volleyball Tournament on Thursday.
The Wolverines overcame a rough start, fall to the Rockets 2-0 (12-25, 19-25) to win their next three matches, 2-0 over Sebeka (25-15, 25-21), 2-1 over Verndale (21-25, 25-21, 25-12), and 2-0 over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (25-19, 25-19).
Jessica Moberg had 51 digs while serving 36-37 with two aces, Kylie Lick was a perfect 33-33 with two aces at the line.
Emma Botker had 34 kills and 28 digs on the day, Mataiah Turner recorded 28 kills with four blocks, and Reanna Ward added 25 kills with six blocks.
Lora Botker tallied 54 assists and 25 digs, Tylaina Issendorf chipped in with 41 assists. The Wolverines end the regular season at 22-4.
Wheaton/Herman-Norcross went 1-4 on the day, dropping their record to 13-13.
The Warriors beat Sebeka 2-0 (10-25, 25-20, 17-15), while dropping matches to Verndale 2-0 (21-25, 16-25), 2-0 to New York Mills (21-25, 15-25), 2-0 to KMS (15-25, 23-25), and another 2-0 loss to NY Mills (20-25, 13-25).
Camden Conference Meet
COTTONWOOD – Samantha Franzese took 16th place to pace Border West runners at the Camden Conference cross country meet in Cottonwood on Tuesday.
Canby’s Grace Drietz took medalist honors while Lac qui Parle Valley took the team title.
Ava Klindworth finished 25th for Border West and the Bucs took fifth in girls team results.
The Border West boys finished seventh, led by Zach and Andrew Stueve who took 34th and 35th. Lac qui Parle Valley won the conference title with the races top five finishers, led by Mike Kval who took medalist honors.
