As State Patrol officers caution drivers to watch for deer on the roadways at this time of year, a crash occurred late last night in Otter Tail County as a Geo Prizm tried to avoid hitting a deer. The Prizm, driven by 38-year-old Travis Simon of Wadena, was traveling north on Highway 29 near County Road 73 when it veered off the road to avoid the deer and rolled into a ditch. Simon was not injured, but his passenger, 60-year-old Melanie Maas of Wadena, was taken to Centra-Care in St. Cloud with life threatening injuries. The Otter Tail Sheriff’s Office and Deer Creek Rescue were on the scene.
