It was revealed this week that one of the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting attack had a Minnesota connection. Joyce Fienberg was a member of Temple of Aaron Synagogue in St. Paul in the 1980s before moving to Pittsburgh for work reasons. She was killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue at the age of 75.
In this past weekend’s sermon at a heavily guarded Temple of Aaron, the congregation’s assistant rabbi, Micah Miller, called for a collective mourning process to begin the healing.
Rabbi Miller said that anti-Semitism and attacks on the Jewish people were nothing new. Visiting dignitaries at this weekend’s Sabbath service included St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell, State Rep. Dave Pinto and Pastor Bradley Schmeling of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
