Three vehicles were involved in a crash in the Willmar area Wednesday evening. A Mitsubishi Lancer driven by 34 year old John Broda of Zimmerman was traveling south on Highway 71 when he came to a stop near 60th Avenue SE in Willmar to make a left turn into a driveway. A Chrysler 300 driven by 23 year old Juan Ruiz of Willmar, also traveling south on 71, rearended the Lancer, pushing it into oncoming traffic. The Lancer then collided head on with a Pontiac Bonneville driven by 19 year old Michael Curry of Olivia, who was traveling north on 71. Distracted driving is suspected to have contributed to the crash.
Curry was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries, as were his passengers, baby Lukaz Curry of Olivia, 16 year old Alexandra Dworshak of Redwood Falls, and 18 year old Dustin Schmidt of Renville. Broda was also taken to Rice with non-life threatening injuries.
