The Morris City Council approved a resolution at their meeting this week to decertify a Tax Increment Financing District that was established in 1998 to build the Willie’s Super Valu store at its current 7th Street location. At the time, the district involved other properties that have since been repurposed.

Morris City Manager Blaine Hill told the Council that the decertification is good news for the city, which is coming nearly six years earlier than its originally established decertification date.

The resolution also authorized the return of some $18,000 in excess unused tax increments, which will first go to the County auditor before being distributed for City, County and School budgets.
