A local farmer is featured in a newly published book about sustainable agriculture. Bryan Simon raises grass-fed beef in Barrett and his operation is highlighted in Brian DeVore’s new book, “Wildly Successful Farming: Sustainability and the New Agricultural Land Ethic.” Simon entered into farming because he saw prairie lands rapidly disappearing as corn and soybeans took over the landscape.

Simon, like author DeVore, is also involved in the Land Stewardship Project as well as The Nature Conservancy. He’s a strong advocate for the use of cover crops to improve soil health.
