The City of Morris’ Green Corps member, Ben Erickson, presented an analysis of energy usage in the city at last week’s meeting between city officials and members of the Morris Model energy sustainability initiative. Erickson was able to find a rough estimate for the amount of carbon emissions put out by the City of Morris.

Erickson told the assembled that this amount was 70 percent higher than the national per capita number for carbon usage, which is 16.5 metric tons per person per year. The Morris Model has proposed a number of goals for the city to reduce carbon emissions, which include purchasing electric busses, retrofitting buildings to increase their energy efficiency, and encouraging Stevens County to participate in organic composting.
