University of Minnesota Morris Chancellor Michelle Behr discussed a new strategic plan for the campus on the KMRS Community Connection program. The last strategic plan was done in 2007. The overall vision for the campus, which is meant to guide it through the next decade, includes having the UM Morris be a model of a liberal arts education in the 21st century, and to be grounded in its sense of history and place, while being committed to accessibility and sustainability. Also on the list: a diverse community that inspires and equips students to connect their passions to meaningful futures.
Behr also unveiled eight aspirational statements to achieve the vision.
The aspirational statements include looking at the curriculum to make sure it’s right for the 21st century; strengthening scholarship by supporting faculty and students in research and creative activities; ensuring UMM is a leader in environmental and economic sustainability; partnering with Native students and communities to acknowledge the school’s history as a boarding school through curriculum and programming; and to amplify the UMM’s place as a center for education engaged with the region, state, nation and world.
