Upon the release of the new budget estimates by the Minnesota Management and Budget office, which showed the state will have a $1.5 billion budget surplus heading into the 2020-21 biennium, State Representative Jeff Backer of Browns Valley said Minnesota’s economy is as strong as it’s been in years.

“With such a large budget surplus, we should be focusing on additional tax relief for Minnesotans,” Backer said in a statement. “Simply put, this should end any talk of raising taxes in the coming legislative session.”
