The Christmas Wish Tree and Christmas Toy Shoppe programs have run into several roadblocks this season, from first needing to find a 501c3 organization willing to sponsor the program to finding a new site for distribution. Morris Women of Today has taken on the program, and distribution had to be moved from the National Guard Armory as it is being used this year by the Wrestling program. Distribution will now be December 22 – a later date that’s very close to Christmas – at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris.
Volunteer Coordinator Peggy Kill said while registration forms have been coming in strong with about 300 children registered, the cash donations are way down. The cash is used to purchase needed gifts to fill in gaps or certain age groups that people find hard to buy for, such as older children, as well as for buying mittens, hats and batteries for toys needing them.
Those interested in donating may make checks out to MN Women of Today Foundation and in the memo put toy program, and mail to P.O. Box 461, Morris MN 56267. New, unwrapped toys are still being collected at area businesses. Contact Peggy Kill with questions at 320-287-0597.
