Sigurd “Sig” E. Holme, 78, of New London, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 28, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in rural Spicer.  Inurnment will be at the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, from 5-8:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with a Knights of Columbus Rosary prayed at 4:45 pm.  The visitation will continue Friday one hour prior to the service.

Sigurd Edward Holme was born January 14, 1940, in Glenwood, MN, the son of Sigurd F. and Ethel (Olson) Holme.  He grew up in Morris where he received his education graduating from Morris High School with the Class of 1958.  After high school, Sig went on to Wahpeton State School of Science where he received a Technical Degree in Auto Body.  After college, Sig moved to St. Paul where he worked in the auto body field until he was drafted into the Army in 1963.  Sig served his county, stationed in France, until 1965 when he earned his honorable discharge and returned home.

On June 1, 1963, Sig was united in marriage to Karen Fermoyle at Assumption Church in Morris.  This union was blessed with three daughters and two sons. The family made their home in Morris where Sig owned Sig’s Body Shop.  In 1976 the family moved to Spicer where Sig began teaching Auto Body at Ridgewater College in Willmar.  In 1997 he retired and with Karen moved to New London.  During his retirement, Sig continued working by driving mail truck and driving truck for West Central Bait.

Sig was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus and as a Eucharistic Minister.  He was a member of the Morris Fire Department and Spicer Fire Department where he was a past chief and retired with over 30 years in Fire Service. Sig was also a member of the Spicer American Legion, and a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts in Morris.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing cars, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, and boating.  He also loved spending time with his family especially his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Sig is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen; children: Sigurd J. (Stephanie) Holme of Spicer, Tina (Steven) Huebner of Hutchinson, Wendy (Joel) Thompson of Spicer, Mike (Tammy) Holme of Spicer, and Amy (Ben) Gilb of Lakeville; grandchildren: Sig, Mallory, Molly, Andrea (Justin), Ben, Jonathan, Brittney, Megan, Rylee, Ethan, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Harper and Charlette; and sister, Judith (Keith) Swanson of Hoffman.  Sig is also survived by his mother-in-law, Beatrice Fermoyle; brothers-in-law: Roger Horning, James (Lenny) Fermoyle, and Tom (Kathy) Fermoyle; sisters-in-law: Rita (Steve) VanHee, Sue (Jim) Hartman, and Kris (Phil) Kloos.

Sig was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nancy Horning, and father-in-law, James Fermoyle.
