Morris Coop Association made two substantial donations to fight hunger. The Coop donated $2,500 to the Feed My Starving Children program, and another $2,500 to the Stevens County Food Shelf. Both donations received matching funds from the Land O’Lakes Foundation, making for a total of $5,000 for each organization.

Feed My Starving Children has had an annual food packaging effort in Morris for the past 12 years.

Robin Smith, co-chair of Morris Area Churches, said they may add a couple of packing stations to next summer’s effort, which will be held August 26-28 in Morris. She said the donation will help them reach their ambitious goal for next year: a 32 percent increase in packaged meals over this past year’s figures.

Pat Larson, co-director of the Stevens County Food Shelf, welcomed the donation as she sees food shelf usage steadily increasing.

Kruize said he hopes Land O’Lakes continues its matching grant program as the Coop would like to make more donations of this type.
