The Appleton Police Department was dispatched Wednesday afternoon to a plane crash at the Appleton Municipal Airport.

The 1973 Cessna Skyhawk was attempting to land and slid off the icy runway. The plane attempted to take off again, but was unable to regain speed. The plane ran off the runway, left the tires connected into the snow, causing the plane to flip over. The pilot was checked out by local EMS and did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

The pilot was identified as a 42 year old male from Clear Lake, Wisconsin. The plane sustained major damage to its top, wings, and wheels. The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The police department was assisted by Appleton Ambulance, Appleton Fire Department, and Swift County Sheriff’s Department.
