With Green Bay, Wisconsin-based retailer Shopko expected to file for bankruptcy in the coming days, the Shopko Pharmacy in Morris is being purchased by Thrifty White Pharmacy, which is based in Plymouth, Minnesota. The closure, which will take effect January 16, will leave Morris with one pharmacy in town. Shopko has already sold other parts of its pharmacy operation to national retailers CVS, Hy-Vee and Krogers.
In December, Shopko announced it would be closing 39 stores, mostly Shopko Hometown outfits which are based in smaller towns. While the Morris store survived that round of closures, the Paynesville and Mahnomen stores in Minnesota were closed. Shopko operates 363 stores in 24 states.
