Republican State Senator Torrey Westrom told KMRS that he would like to see other ideas implemented before raising the gas tax, which Governor Walz is supporting in an effort to raise funds for infrastructure repairs.

With more hybrids and electric vehicles on the roads, Westrom noted that a gas tax won’t touch those drivers. He would support a tax on auto parts to be dedicated for roadwork, and would also like to see load capacities for certain commodities increased to reduce the truck traffic on the roads, leading to less wear and tear. You can find a full interview with Westrom on our website, under the News tab (look for Community Connection).
