Recent snowstorms highlighted that the County’s Highway Department may be stretched thin when it comes to plowing. Stevens County Coordinator Rebecca Young told the KMRS Community Connection program that crews need to plow 800 miles of County roads, after taking on another township this year for plowing service.

The County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a one-way plow for $14,555 at its regular meeting last week, as it gradually works its way up to getting a one-way plow for every motorgrader in the fleet. County Engineer Todd Larson said the plows are “way better” and will shorten the time of crews, compared to the older equipment.
