At last week’s meeting of the Stevens County Board of Commissioners, the Stevens County Times was approved as the newspaper to publish legal notices for the calendar years 2019 through 2021. But Commissioner Ron Staples wondered when the County could post such notices on its own website. He cited the high cost of publishing the notices.
The State Legislature would need to change those laws to give counties greater publishing flexibility. For its part, the City of Morris last week designated the Stevens County Times as its paper to publish its notices, but the City Council did not have a discussion about a timeline for discontinuing the practice. The City does prepare a condensed version of its minutes for publication.
