The City of Morris spent $17.5 million on energy in the past year, with $8 million of that on electricity costs, according to Baseline Energy Consumption data collected by Minnesota Green Corps member Ben Erickson. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Morris, Erickson has made his energy use presentation twice — before the Morris City Council and also a retreat for stakeholders in energy conservation. He was on the KMRS Community Connection program January 14.

Erickson noted that his figures reflected the effects of large energy consumers like Denco II, Superior Industries, Stevens Community Medical Center and the University of Minnesota Morris, which has many efforts in place to increase energy sustainability on the campus.
