The problems of the Ashby Elevator operation and its misappropriation of funds was the subject of hearings this week of the Agriculture, Rural Development and Housing Policy Committee at the State Legislature, which is chaired by District 12 State Senator Torrey Westrom. The Republican legislator told KMRS that the committee heard from lawyers involved in the situation and sought information on what changes need to be made to prevent these incidents from happening in the future.

Westrom indicated that while inspections and auditing of grain elevators is already required, changes may need to be made in the frequency of inspections and the way they are audited.
