The Minnesota Firefighter’s Association met with District 12 State Senator Torrey Westrom last week, pushing to keep the Fire Safety Account intact and hoping to get dollars for volunteer training. But Westrom told KMRS that they were also pushing to get rid of flame retardants, which were once sprayed on furniture to stop the spread of fires but have since been found to cause cancer and emit more smoke.

Westrom said that when the “science is not always followed through,” it makes it tricky as a legislator and tougher to make a decision.
