State Senator Torrey Westrom told KMRS that this week’s Special Election in District 11, which saw Republican Jason Rarick victorious, will make a difference in procedural areas of the Senate. He recalled some years ago when a Republican senator had to take a leave to attend a funeral and Democratic lawmakers would not provide the votes to move bills forward, resulting in the suspension of the session for a few days until the senator returned. Westrom said the extra cushion will reduce the amount of such “chicanery.”

The election has given Repuplicans a 35-32 majority in the Senate.
