Approximately 1,100 anglers braved subzero wind chills Saturday to participate in the sixth annual Ice Castle Classic fishing tournament on Lac qui Parle Lake. The West Central Tribune reported that Matthew Fragodt of Montevideo earned the grand prize of $10,000 for bringing in a 2.03-pound crappie, the tournament’s best.
The tournament is one of western Minnesota’s largest in terms of participants and prizes awarded. Since its start, the tournament has awarded over $150,000 in proceeds to a variety of charitable organizations.
The next biggest fish, a 1.45-pound crappie, was caught by Nikkie Street of Big Stone City, South Dakota. Street won a Lake of the Woods model ice fishing wheelhouse.
