While Enbridge Pipeline Company is embroiled in building its Line 3 project, the company is also in court defending a decision reducing pipeline valuations that could cost counties millions of dollars.
District 4B State Representative Paul Marquart appeared before the Association of Minnesota Counties last week, including a delegation from Stevens County. He says if the counties lose in court the state will need to act.
The Minnesota Tax court ruled that the Department of Revenue overvalued the pipeline by $3.2 billion dollars costing counties between $30 and $40 million dollars in tax base. The state appealed the decision, which was thrown back to the tax court.
