Stevens County Coordinator Rebecca Young

The Stevens County Board of Commissioners heard a report at their meeting last week from Health and Human Services Director Liberty Sleiter that indicated a rise in the number of out of home placements the County has dealt with in 2018. County Coordinator Rebecca Young confirmed on the KMRS Community Connection that the numbers have been steadily growing.

Young said half of those are cases involving the termination of parental rights where the County is working on adoption cases, while three deal with children’s mental health cases. Many of the cases are costly for the County, as they are often mandated by the State for them to provide, but Young said case numbers are expected to remain high for the foreseeable future.
