The Morris City Council passed a resolution at its meeting this week adopting a strategic plan and setting sustainability goals for the City of Morris. The non-binding goals cover four areas: energy, transportation, waste reduction and recycling, and education. The plan has been worked on for a number of months by members of the Morris Model Team. Morris Mayor Sheldon Giese praised the plan and those who worked on it.
Three of the plan’s biggest goals are to produce 80 percent of the energy consumed in the county by 2030; to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent by 2030; and no land-filling of waste generated within the county by 2025. The City recently leased its first electric hybrid vehice for its fleet, a Chevy Volt.
