BOYS BASKETBALL

Hillcrest Lutheran 62, Hancock 59
HANCOCK – Hancock’s second half comeback came up short in a 62-59 loss to Hillcrest in the regular season finale on Friday.
The Owls trailed by 19 in the second, 15 with less than 10 minutes to play before an electric rally in front of a packed house with a playoff atmosphere.
Peyton Rohloff’s three pointer with 2:10 remaining gave the Owls a 57-56 lead, but moments later the Comets Micah Foss hit a go-ahead three to put Hillcrest up 60-59. Connor Reese’s late three fell short and the Comets held on for the win.
Reese led the Owls with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, Colton Crowell came off the bench and hit four threes to finish with 12, Cole Reese added nine points with five assists.
Nick Foss led the Comets with 18 points, Sander Frustol had 16 with nine rebounds and three blocks. The Owls end the regular season 19-6, 9-3 in the Pheasant Conference while Hillcrest is 13-10, 3-6 in conference play.

Ortonville 89, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 75
ORTONVILLE – Wheaton/Herman-Norcross junior Matt Thielen hit 10 threes to finish with a game-high 36 points in a losing effort as the Warriors fell to Ortonville 89-75.
With his performance Thielen has reached the 1,000 point milestone. The Warriors end the regular season with a 7-16 record, 2-9 in the Pheasant Conference. The Trojans are now 19-2, and wrap up a perfect conference slate at 11-0.

Parkers Prairie 70, West Central Area 52
PARKERS PRAIRIE – Alex Koep scored a game-high 23 points to lead Parkers Prairie past West Central Area 70-52.
Noah Koep added 13 for the Panthers who took advantage of a dry spell for the Knights that lasted several minutes in the first half to build a double-digit lead they held throughout the game.
Jack VanKempen had 18 points with six rebounds for the Knights, Gage Staples had 13 points and six boards, Grant Beuckens added 11 points with four steals. The Panthers end the regular season at 21-4 while the Knights are 14-9.


STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT (Individual)

ST. PAUL – MAHACA Tigers eighth grader Davin Rose went 2-1 at day one of state individual wrestling tournament from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Friday.

Rose defeated South St. Paul’s Will Nihart 6-3 in the first round, before falling to top-seed Joey Thompson of Totino-Grace by tech fall in the quarterfinals.

Rose ended the day with a 5-2 win in the wrestlebacks over Perham’s Blaze Brady. Rose will open Saturday with a match against Austin Gabbert of Watertown/Mayer Lutheran.

Other Area Wrestlers:

Border West: Eli Larson (106) went 0-1, while Jace Olson (113) was 0-2 and are both eliminated.

WCA/Ashby/B-E: Wyatt Olson (195) went 2-0 and will wrestle in the semifinals, while Anthony Sykora (126) went 1-2 and is eliminated, as is Jordan Lohse (138) who went 0-2.

Minnewaska: Tyson Meyer (170), Tyler VanLuik (195), and Dylan Jergenson (220) each went 2-0 and will wrestle in the semifinals.
Easton McCrory went 2-1 and is into the second round of wrestlebacks. Jakob Swalla (285) went 1-2, Mason Blair (145) was 0-1 and each have been eliminated.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa: Walker Bents (106), Blaine Fischer (120), Canon Swanson (126), and Tyler Bents (138) each went 2-0 and will wrestle in the semifinals. Tyler Jensen (132) was 2-1 and is in the second round of the wrestlebacks.

Benson: Hunter Mondor (120), Wyatt McGee (152), Jared Knutson (160), Dylan Stwart (182), and Thomas Dineen (195) were all eliminated.

BOYS HOCKEY

Bantams West Regional Tournament
ALEXANDRIA – The Morris/Benson Area Storm Bantams defeated Crookston 4-2 in the first round of the West Region Tournament from the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria on Friday.
The Storm outshot Crookston 46-14, getting goals from Trevor Buss, Cole Blume, Kaleb Breuer, and Sam Thompson. The Storm face St. Michael-Albertville in the second round at noon on Saturday.
