Superior Industries is putting some big money behind the expansion of the Morris Airport. The Morris City Council approved a resolution at their meeting this week for a funding agreement with Superior, which involves an $875,000 donation to the City and making an additional $1.4 million available to the city for what would basically be a loan until grant agreements are approved. Superior hopes to increase business traffic at the airport with the proposed extension of the runway from its current 4000 feet to its planned 5000 feet.
Council Member Brian Solvie voiced his support for the project, especially with the funding that eliminates the need for tax dollars.
Besides the runway extension, the project also plans to make improvements to the airport apron and hangers. The Council also approved getting an estimate for an environmental assessment of the project, which is the first step in the building process. That assessment is expected to be completed before the end of the calendar year.
