EVANSVILLE – With gametime temps hovering around 36 degrees, Hancock and Brandon-Evansville players braved the cold and opened their 2019 season on Thursday in Evansville.
Three Owls pitchers worked out of numerous jams to piece together a 7-2 victory.
Tanner Pahl started for Hancock, striking out five over two innings, surrendering both Chargers runs in the first (one earned), before giving way to Preston Rohloff and Kody Berget.
Rohloff tossed three scoreless to earn the win, working out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth, and stranding two Chargers in scoring position in the fifth. Berget also worked out of a bases loaded jam and recorded the last six outs for the save.
Pahl’s RBI double in the third broke a 2-2 tie, while Rohloff, Berget, and Adam Shaw each collected RBI’s. Daniel Milander had two hits in the leadoff spot.
Zach Haugen took the loss for the Chargers, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings. Tanner Bitzan went 2-3 with an RBI, Gaven Jacobson drove in another. But the Chargers were unable to come up with the big hit, stranding 11 on-base.
