The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol will close Highway 117, southwest of Wheaton between Highway 27 and the Minnesota/South Dakota border, at 10 a.m. Wednesday due to flooding and rising water levels on Lake Traverse and the Mustinka River. The road will remain closed until the water recedes and crews can inspect the roadway for safety.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
