At about 7:30 p.m. last night, the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident that had occurred on Stevens County Road 10, just west of Stevens County Road 1, at Long Lake. The driver of the vehicle, a Joshua Dewald, age 40, of Brooten, Minnesota, was driving eastbound on County Road 10 and drifted into the westbound lane where he collided with a pickup truck that was parked on the side of the road for fishing purposes. The collision caused Dewald’s vehicle to go sideways and down the embankment where it struck a fisherman, who was identified as Nicholas Hervin, age 32, of Morris.
Both Dewald and Hervin were transported to the Stevens Community Medical Center (SCMC). Hervin died as a result of injuries sustained from the accident. Dewald was taken into custody on several outstanding warrants.
