A community dinner and discussion about our regional energy future, which will include representatives from Morris’ sister city of Saerbeck, Germany, will be hosted by the Morris Model Team starting 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 at the Old Number 1 Southside in Morris. Members of the team will present and discuss the Morris Model Strategic Plan with community energy goals.

The City of Morris is a founding member of the statewide Climate Smart Municipalities program, which has partnered five cities in Minnesota with five cities in Germany. Morris is partnered with Saerbeck, a small agricultural community about the size of Morris. Architects of Saerbeck’s energy transformation, including the Mayor, will share their story and help Morris create its own.

Morris Model team member Mike Reese of the West Central Research and Outreach Center told the KMRS Community Connection that he views the Model as developing economic and environmental resiliency for the whole county.

The evening will include an Electric Vehicle showcase outside Old #1 at 5:30 p.m. and those with EVs are invited to drive it to the event. RSVPs are appreciated by 4 p.m. Friday, June 7. Contact Morris City Hall or the University of Minnesota Morris Office of Sustainability to do so.
