Now that they have raised their initial $46,000 and gotten the blessing this week from the Stevens County Board of Commissioners, the Hancock Community Group that seeks to develop a day care and event center on Main Street in Hancock has to raise most of its money by the end of the year. Stevens County Coordinator Rebecca Young said on the KMRS Community Connection that the group still has to raise a lot of money in a short amount of time. Their goal: $3 million for the complete project. A scaled down Plan B version of the project with a smaller event center has also been planned in case funding is short.
Once developed, taxes on the operation were estimated to be in the $3,000 range, which members of the Hancock group said were probably on the high side.
