In a KMRS Early Morning Show interview, U.S. Senator Tina Smith said she is very concerned about the latest round of tariffs that President Trump is threatening to slap on Mexico. She said it takes decades to build good trading relationships, and creating chaos in the marketplace helps no one. Smith offered this advice to the White House:
“Don’t put tariffs on your friends, on your trading partners. Try to build a coalition to get these markets opened back up again. And don’t be so erratic in the steps you take. I think that most of our trading partners around the globe are wondering what the heck is going on.”
Any tariffs on Mexico, said Smith, would get in the way of moving the USMCA agreement forward in Congress.
