As one of 10 finalists for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way title, Chokio dairy farmer Elizabeth Golombiecki will get to have her head carved in a 90 pound block of butter in the Dairy Building at the Minnesota State Fair. Golombiecki has been the Stevens County Dairy Princess for the past five years. On the KMRS Community Connection program, she said American Dairy Association board members were not sure if there had ever been a finalist for Princess Kay from Stevens County.
Having her head carved in butter was something Golombiecki and her father used to joke about when she was a young girl. But now that it’s becoming a reality, she said she was “super-excited” about it and at the chance to represent dairy farmers in the area.
Golombiecki’s father died of pancreatic cancer just a few weeks before she was named a finalist. To celebrate June as National Dairy Month, Golombiecki will make appearances at today’s Dakotah Bank Community Appreciation lunch from 11 to 1, helping to give out fried ice cream Friday at RiverWood Bank, next week at Bank of the West, as well as future outings at Willie’s SuperValu and the Riverview Dairy open house event.
