Stevens Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its Family Fun Night from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight at the Perkins Lake Public Access on 454th Avenue in Morris. There will be kids’ games and prizes, picnic food, and information on Aquatic Invasive Species. Kasey Jenc of the SWCD told KMRS that zebra mussels were found last fall in Perkins Lake. She encouraged listeners to do some voluntary monitoring on Perkins Lake and others for zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species.

Jenc said one trick to try is to hang a cinder block off the end of your dock as a sampler, as zebra mussels will cling to that. There is also training available from the U of M Extension on how to become an AIS detective.
