For decades, Alexandria has had a lack of public restrooms in the downtown area. A project was completed this spring to build restrooms in Big Ole Central Park, the trailhead for the Central Lakes Trail. To mark the occasion, the Echo Press reported that City and business officials gathered at the site this past Wednesday for the city’s first-ever “toilet paper cutting” ceremony. The restroom project with fees and sewer connection charges, cost about $106,000. The restrooms are heated and will be open year-round from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition, the Alexandria Rotary Club has built a fishing pier near the park on the south shore of Lake Agnes. The club will be holding a dedication for the pier on Thursday that will include the unveiling of a new sign.
