At Wednesday’s keynote event of the Midwest Farm Energy Conference at the Old No. 1 in Morris, State Senator Torrey Westrom of Elbow Lake was presented with a Lifetime Leadership and Service Award. Westrom was one of a handful of people who met at DeToy’s Restaurant in 2001 to strategize how to make renewable energy more prominent in the area. In presenting the award to Westrom, Mike Reese of the West Central Research and Outreach Center cited Westrom’s role in securing funding for Morris’ wind turbine, as well as his support of the WCROC. Westrom told the over 100 assembled that he was humbled by the honor.

Westrom was presented with both a Certificate and a wooden model of a wind turbine with the U of M Morris logo carved on it.
