LEGION BASEBALL

Morris 8, Benson 7 (12 Inn)
MORRIS – Kevin Asfeld’s infield single scored Jarret Johnson and Morris prevailed in a 12 inning marathon for an 8-7 victory over Benson in the District 7 West Region Legion baseball playoffs.

Morris was one out away from victory in the top of the seventh when Benson’s Alex Wobleski tied it with an RBI single to center.

The game was back-and-forth from the start, with neither team holding more than a two-run lead. Benson scored in the eighth and 11th innings only to have the 29ers answer each time. Morris had multiple chances to end it in walk-off fashion before Asfeld finally broke through.

Asfeld finished with three hits on the night including a double, Colten Scheldorf had four hits and was a home run shy of the cycle, driving in one and scoring another.

Jordan Leuthardt picked up the win after a perfect 11th inning. Jaret Johnson started and tossed four innings, allowing three earned runs. Cade Fehr had 3.1 innings of relief, Zach Bruns struck out nine over 2.2 innings.

Wobleski and Will Enderson had two RBI’s for Benson, Sam Lenarz took the loss. Enderson started and pitched four innings, giving up four earned runs, Matt Lenarz came on with six innings of one-run relief.

Wheaton 3, Hancock 1
MORRIS – Matt Thielen pitched a complete game and drove in two runs at the plate to lead Wheaton past Hancock 3-1.

Thielen’s sacrifice bunt in the second scored Hunter Johnson to tie the game at one, he then deliver the go-ahead RBI hit in the sixth.

On the hill Thielen allowed a run on just two hits and struck out nine for the win.

Kody Bergett struck out eight over four innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits. Tanner Pahl took the loss in relief, but had the lone RBI for post 29.


JUNIOR LEGION

Morris 3, BOLD 2

OLIVIA – Ross Marty had three hits and an RBI and Morris defeated BOLD 3-2 in game one of a doubleheader from Olivia on Friday.

Sam Kleinwolterink tossed three innings of one-run ball on two hits before Josh Rohloff finished the game with four innings of one-run ball for the win.

Derek Giese had two hits with an RBI for the 5039s.

Morris 4, BOLD 3
OLIVIA – Dylan Rose tossed a complete game to help Morris earn a sweep of BOLD with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Rose allowed three runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts, Brandon Jergenson had three hits with an RBI, Sam Kleinwolterink had two RBI’s on two hits. Riley Reimers added an RBI hit for the 5039s who are 15-9 on the season.
