A 2-vehicle crash early Wednesday evening on Highway 59 in Chippewa County has left an Appleton woman dead and another man in critical condition.
A Saturn SL2 driven by 34 year old Braxton Monte Anderson of New Effington, South Dakota, was heading south on Highway 59, while a Cadillac Escalade driven by 31 year old Scotty Ponun of Milan was northbound on the same highway. The Saturn took a hard left turn in front of the Cadillac, which then impacted the Saturn on the passenger side door. The Saturn passenger, 20 year old Brittany Lynn Schulz of Appleton died at the scene. Anderson, the Saturn driver, was taken to North Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. He had been drinking alcohol.
Both Ponun and his passenger in the Cadillac, 18 year old Wanton Isikar of Milan, were taken to the Montevideo Emergency Room with non-life threatening injuries. Assisting the State Patrol were the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Lac qui Parle Sheriff’s Office, Montevideo Police Department, and both the Montevideo and Watson Fire Departments.
