Rebecca Petersen of West Central Initiative gave an update of what her agency has been doing for Stevens County and regionally to the Morris City Council at their regular meeting this week. While the agency has given 258 grants totaling $1.6 million since 1986 to Stevens County, Petersen said broader problems like day care and workforce labor shortages and increasing affordable housing will need to be worked on cooperatively with other counties. Petersen said the partnership goal is “one of the most prominent, sustainable development goals.” She said working together on the tough challenges will make the region stronger.

Petersen asked the Council for an increase in support of the WCI from $2000 to $2500 a year for the next three years. The agency also supports the Live Wide Open marketing campaign, which highlights reasons people have chosen to live in west central Minnesota.
