Morris Area Elementary School 4th grade teacher Emily Dalen (DAY-len) said on the KMRS Community Connection program that she has had a “good outpouring of support” for her campaign to collect gently used apparel with the Tiger logo on them. She was inspired to tackle the project, which she has dubbed “Tiger Threads,” after seeing some of her students unable to participate fully in things like Spirit Day or Homecoming at school

“I see as a teacher there’ll be students who come to school on Homecoming Spirit Friday with a green shirt and they’ll say, ‘I didn’t have anything orange or anything black,'” recalled Dalen. “And their parents just don’t have money to afford to buy anything with a Tiger logo.”

Dalen said she hopes to eliminate “the shame that goes along with not being able to afford something as basic as a Tiger T-shirt.” Clothing will be collected until September 20th. Drop-off locations include Pizza Ranch, Heartland Motor Company, Willie’s Supervalu, Faith Lutheran Church, Evangelical Free Church, Hosanna Worship Center, Trinity Lutheran in Cyrus, as well as the school ofices and the District office.
