Indivisible Morris will hold a Defund Hate Rally from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday on the Morris Public Library Mall to protest what it sees as the misuse and mismanagement of ICE funds and the mistreatment of children and families in detention camps. The rally is tied in with upcoming debates in Congress on funding for government agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Department of Homeland Security recently announced to much controversy that it would be diverting $155 million from FEMA’s disaster relief funds to ICE, even as Hurricane Dorian gained strength.

Besides protesting such moves, participants in the protest will also write postcards to Congressman Collin Peterson to support their efforts. In addition, many will show support for their Hispanic neighbors by attending the Annual Lazos Dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, which celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and works to strengthen community ties.
