While the Stevens County Board of Commissioners approved a bonding proposal of $2.75 million last week for a new Highway Department building, County Coordinator Rebecca Young told the KMRS Community Connection program that there should be no impact on tax payments for that project.
“We’re going to hopefully take this bond payment with no levy increase,” said Young. “And so I think that’s really important for the public to note is that they won’t see an additional increase in their property taxes.”
A new facility for the Highway Department has been in discussion for the past five years. Young said if it had been built at that time, the cost would have been between $1.5 and 1.7 million. After the 30 day public comment on the bonding approval, an engineer will be hired to do design work on the project and put together a bid package.
