A number of Homecoming activities and events for students, alumni, families, and friends will be held throughout this weekend at the University of Minnesota Morris. Interim Athletic Director Matt Johnson said on the KMRS Community Connection program that it will be a huge weekend for Cougar athletics – both present and past.
“Saturday there’s a noon kickoff for football, and then again 3:30 for volleyball. So, the hope is that you come, enjoy and cheer on a Cougar victory on the gridiron, and then you can transition right into the Cougar Sports Center and cheer on the volleyball team, too,” said Johnson. “Again, a lot of events are going on for us athletically and we’re excited about it.”
The football team will host McMurray College from Illinois. Tonight, the Cougar Hall of Fame will induct three individuals and two teams: wrestler and coach Tom Beyer; 1990s volleyball player Erica Bailey-Johnson; and volleyball player Jenna Mackey-Swanson, who played in the 2000s. In addition, both the 1994 and 1995 Men’s tennis teams will be inducted. And Curt Larson of the Class of ’68 will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award at tonight’s Homecoming banquet.
A number of reunion baseball, softball and basketball will also be held throughout the weekend, including a 12:30 p.m. Sunday baseball reunion game which will offer a chance to meet new head coach Matt O’Brien.
This year’s University of Minnesota Morris Homecoming Concert will feature the Symphonic Winds, Concert Choir, and the Jazz Ensemble and will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in the Recital Hall of the Humanities Fine Arts building.
Prospective students and their families may take a look at the University of Minnesota Morris on the campus visit day starting 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Imholte Hall 109. There will be an admissions presentation, campus tour, lunch, and more — including the Cougar Football Homecoming Game.
